Tips for riding your motorcycle during the spring months

The warmer months are ones when people can venture out on their motorcycles. Since many people put their bikes up during the colder months, now is the time to get them out and make sure that they are road ready so you can hop on and enjoy the beautiful weather in San Francisco.

Because most motorcycles have been put away all winter, drivers might not be ready to watch for them yet. It is true that they should always be vigilant, but you will need to be especially careful when you ride. This is especially true at intersections because other motorists may glance over you.

Get the motorcycle ready

One of the most important things you can do is to make sure that your motorcycle is ready to ride. Look at the tires to ensure they are in good shape and have ample tread left. You also need to check the brakes and lights to ensure they are functioning properly. Make sure the fluids are topped off and that the battery is working as it should.

Grab your gear

You need to have gear that is cool enough to ride during the summer months. You still need it to protect you but you don't need to get overheated while you ride. Dress in layers and bring your fun summer shoes with you instead of trying to ride in shoes that don't offer any protection for your feet. You can put a saddle bag or tank bag on your bike in which to hold your summer gear that you'll need when you reach your destination.

Remember the rules of the road

It might help you to brush up on the rules of the road. One important thing to remember is the right of way laws. Never try to encroach on another vehicle's right of way. Always use your turn signal or arm signals so drivers know where you are going. Don't weave in and out of traffic since this can lead to problems.

If you are struck by a vehicle while you are on your motorcycle, make sure that you get medical care if you need it. Depending on the circumstances and the severity of your injuries, you might choose to seek compensation for the damages of the wreck. In order to preserve your right to do so and avoid causing any added difficulties, be sure that you never say anything that someone might construe as your taking the blame for the accident.
